Photoshop Day 1 exercise:

Part 1

Find an image on WIkimedia Commons

Save the image to your lab workspace (not your server!)

Use the get info dialog to find out some information on the image- highlight the image with a right click and choose get info.

Note the size, dimensions and color space.

Open the image in Photoshop cc.

Save your project as a PSD file.
This saves all your edits and layers

Check the image size panel- note the relationship between the image size in inches, the pixel dimensions and the DPI.

Use the selection tools to make a selection around some objects in the images. Use all the tools, adding and subtracting from selections to get a complex selection.

Save your selection from the Selection menu. Name it something to remember.

After the selection is complete, click the delete button to select the fill dialog, and scroll through the options. Fill the selected area with a color.

Export your image as a JPEG file.

Revert to your original image and load your saved selection. Try inverting it.
Fill and manipulate your selection.

Export the image from the inverted selection as a JPEG.

Post the original image and the two manipulated images to your wiki page. Include all the metadata you noted in the first part of the exercise.

Part 2

Open 2 images in Photoshop.

Repeat the selection process.

Copy the selection from one image and paste it into a new layer in the second image.

Adjust the size of the pasted elements.

Does the difference in the original images dimensions affect how the element look when pasted into the other image?

Part 3

Find an image with an irregular object that needs to be removed. Use the refine edge process to select the object, invert the selection and separate the object formt he background.

Post all originals and resulting images to your wiki page.
